Iowa man faces drug charges after dramatic arrest

On Behalf of | Mar 9, 2018 | Drug Charges |

An Iowa man was arrested on drug charges on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, as he traveled to Storm Lake. The Iowa Division of Narcotics and Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department advised local police in Storm Lake that the 36-year-old man from Quimby was traveling to a business in town. There were reportedly warrants issued for the man from several counties in the state, indicating that he had a history of violence and was likely to be armed.

A surveillance unit spotted the man driving on Geneseo Street in the afternoon. Police cars blocked the man’s path near West Fifth Street as he drove down the road. After police vehicles blocked his path in front, he attempted to go in reverse, spinning the car 180 degrees. However, other police vehicles blocked his car from the other direction before a second police car hit his vehicle from the rear.

After the crash, police broke out the man’s passenger side front window and removed him from the car. He was arrested without any further issues. The man was wanted in Cherokee and Ida Counties for contempt of court as well as in Pottawattamie County for a probation violation. When he was arrested, the police obtained a warrant to search his vehicle, where they found methamphetamine, marijuana, $2,300 in cash, alleged drug paraphernalia and other items.

The man was charged with several felony drug charges in addition to his outstanding warrants, including possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine and possession of marijuana third and subsequent. He was also charged with misdemeanors that included possession of drug paraphernalia.

People in Iowa facing drug charges could experience lifelong consequences if they get arrested and convicted, including costly fines, jail or prison time and a felony criminal record. A criminal defense lawyer can help individuals who are charged with drug offenses to present a vigorous defense and challenge police conduct and behavior.
