Five face methamphetamine-related drug charges

On Behalf of | Feb 1, 2018 | Drug Charges |

Five people are facing drug charges in Iowa related to the distribution of methamphetamine. Three of the men are from Iowa, and one is from Missouri.

On Nov. 30, investigators stopped one of the men when he was allegedly on his way to make a sale. At that time, officers found 2 pounds of methamphetamine in the 34-year-old man’s car. Later that same day, officers had arranged for a monitored purchase of more than 4 pounds of methamphetamine in Marshalltown.

Police say a 26-year-old man is the ringleader. According to court records, undercover officers had arranged a buy of more than 6 pounds of meth at a hotel in the Des Moines area on Jan. 17. The alleged leader was taken into custody there along with a 25-year-old man and a 37-year-old man. On Jan. 18, a complaint asking for charges of conspiracy to distribute meth was filed against all five men by a police officer working for the Tri-County Drug Enforcement Task Force.

People facing drug charges may want to talk to an attorney. It is important to keep in mind that even drug charges for possession may have serious repercussions. In addition to the legal ramifications, a drug conviction could affect a person’s access to housing, financial aid for education and some jobs. Therefore, in some cases, an individual might wonder if it is possible to get his or her drug charges dismissed. A lawyer may look into the case and determine whether the person’s rights were violated during the investigation. A plea bargain, usually involving pleading guilty to lesser charges for a lighter penalty, is another possibility. Someone may also work out a strategy with his or her attorney for going to trial and pleading not guilty.
